The INDEXA Humanitarian Aid Fund

“The Zorro Miyazawa, JH1AJT, Hams with Hearts Fund”

Indexa Logo

Before his death in March of 2022, Mr. Zorro Miyazawa, JH1AJT, established and endowed the INDEXA Humanitarian Aid Fund which specifically supports humanitarian aid projects carried out by DXpeditions. His generosity enabled INDEXA to begin these grants in January of 2016. The tag for this fund is "Hams with Hearts," reflecting Zorro's character and values. INDEXA is proud and grateful to be able to sustain Zorro's legacy through this fund.

To qualify for humanitarian grants, DXpeditions must present a clear plan for a humanitarian project to coincide with their DXpedition. The project must provide direct, physical benefit to the local population and go beyond leaving behind ham equipment, making a video, or giving a class in amateur radio. Examples of acceptable projects include, but are not limited to, providing school supplies, clothing, medical supplies, first aid equipment, water purification supplies, etc. INDEXA suggests that humanitarian grants be focused on the top 100 DXCC entities as listed on Club Log's current Most Wanted List using "No Mode Filter, All Bands and Global Log". In every case, the INDEXA board will review the plans and make a decision as to whether or not to fund the project.

In the early years of this fund, it is likely that grants will be modest. We therefore will be seeking low cost but high impact projects. As this fund grows it may be possible to encourage DXpeditions to conduct humanitarian project by supporting both the DXpedition itself and the humanitarian project it carries out.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Zorro, experience his compassion, and witness the humanitarian projects he carried out on a personal level. Through Zorro's generosity The Humanitarian Aid Fund will continue to benefit humanity and enhance the image of amateur radio around the world.

The Video below explains the critical role Zorro played in establishing the Fund and describes some of the initial projects the Fund supported. It also explains that we use only earnings from contributions so that your contributions will always remain in the Fund.
